Before you start
Prepare a dedicated device running a fresh Debian 12 or 13 installation with systemd. The signed release specifies whether it supports your device's architecture. amd64 includes 64-bit Intel and AMD processors; arm64 is a different architecture. Confirm the release and any accelerator support with Nabik before buying hardware.
You need:
- A wired network connection and working internet for installation, activation, updates, and first-time model downloads.
- A correct system clock, at least 10 GiB free for the software, and additional persistent storage sized for your recordings.
- IP cameras on the same reachable network, with their credentials and stream details. H.264 video is the safest starting choice.
- A single-use activation token from the Nabik team. Keep it private.
For automatic startup after a power cut, enable your device's BIOS option named Restore on AC Power Loss, AC Recovery, or similar. A UPS is needed if recording must continue during an outage.
The local web interface uses HTTPS on port 8971. Keep it on a trusted local network; do not forward it directly to the public internet. If your cameras use two-way audio, WebRTC may also need TCP and UDP port 8555 on the local network.
